I've found a new MMORPG

Currently, I am less than thrilled with the state of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games. Any MMORPG seems to fall into one of two categories: Intresting game design that is also full of bugs or Bug free but the same old boring level and class system.

For a while, I had been interested in Vanguard but then they joined up with The Unethical Ones and I immediately lost interest in that game. So, I pretty much decided that if I was going to play a MMO, I'd play one that was relatively bug free, and that meant World of Warcraft.

However, one game did come out that I had no real interest in. I had heard that it was actually polished with few bugs. However, I think that Tolkien is the most over-rated fantasy author of all time and therefore I never really looked into the game. It wasn't until out of shear boredom at work that I decided to read a few threads at a forum I frequent. There I discovered that Lord of the Rings Online has a decent crafting system and homes.

The crafting system is very similiar to World of Warcrafts, however it does allow for a chance of a "critical success" when crafting an item. A feature that doesn't appear at all in World of Warcraft.

As for homes: Lord of the Rings Online has homes you can decorate; World of Warcraft doesn't even have homes.

I decided to try out the game and see how it handles. I haven't spent much time in there, but so far I haven't run into a single bug and the game has been pretty smooth. I did just discover something else very neat. You can play musical instruments in the game. And I mean completely play them; pressing keys to make certain sounds. Some people have even taken the time to create music sheets for some popular (to gamers) songs.

Since I see the Imperial March listed, I'm going to have to give it a try.

The musical instruments are the main thing that interest me. I might check this out after I burn out on WoW raids, just for the music.

I'll wait until you are a little more established before grilling you as to what class, etc. I should pick. Only four races and 2 of them are short and one of the tall ones is huamn! I guess I will have to be an elf. Bleh.

Yeah, the very limited race and class system is the biggest obstacle to this game. I went ahead and created the maximum number of alts and it is impossible to try every class, but you have to repeat at least one race.

I think you might enjoy the Minstrel class. They are a healing class that uses music for their "spells." They also appear to have the widest selection of musical instruments available to them just for playing. The good news is that any race can be a minstrel.

An elven minstrel . . . *whacks self over the head with dead sea bass* . . . I think I'll name her Stairway2Heaven.

Let me know when you've got houses and stuff (and if there's a promotion where you get prizes for recruiting friends). Until then I shall be pursuing my current WoW goal of slaying everything slayable.

Heh. They have a refer-a-friend program. You get a free month of playing if you refer someone. But I won't worry about it until I get a home. Then I can at least show you what they look like. I haven't been in one yet, myself.

So how's it going in Tolkeinland?

Last night I came up with a sort of brilliant idea after Sami finally made it to 70.

I want to do an all Order Karazhan run. On my birthday (July 16, a Wednesday). Here at my new office I get the day off work for my birthday, what a nice idea :) Of course I could always move it to the Saturday afterwards if that works best for everyone.

So far there are nine of us, we've got the right mix of classes and finding the tenth shouldn't be too much trouble. And I figure three months is plenty of warning.

Sounds like fun.

For the last few nights, I've been reading instead of playing on a computer. I was doing some cleaning and found a box of my old books. I realized that I haven't read an old and favorite series of mine and started it up.

The Sword Dancer Saga by Jennifer Roberson.

I did pop into WoW the other night, but no one was around in order and I left after a few minutes.
